Entering My Practice

Typically families enter my practice with the expectation of being involved in continual services. Entering my practice involves:

The first session is the initial session with the parent(s) and child. I will collect information on the presenting issues and your concerns. Most importantly I will be making observations of your child. Please bring all reports, evaluations and IEP’s with you to this meeting.

The second session is just the adults. We will discuss the information on the screening forms that you completed, that were provided at the end of the first session. I will collect more detailed information and we will be able to speak frankly without your child present. Between the first and second session I will review all reports, evaluations and IEP’s, that you provided. By the end of this session we would discuss my findings and design a treatment plan.

The third session is just the child. I will be making more in-depth observations to confirm my conclusions from the reports, evaluations, screening forms and the information you provided in our personal interview.

The cost for each one of these first three sessions is $185.00; all sessions thereafter are $180.00.

However, not all families are ready to begin therapy or know what they want.
The following consultations will help you get answers to your questions.

Consultations

Four different consultations to choose from:
“Getting you started”
“Getting on the right track”
“Telephone Consultations”
“Group Consultations”

Getting you started

This consultation is designed to help families:

  • who don’t know what they need
  • who don’t know the next decision to make
  • who don’t know what type of professional to see
  • who don’t understand how to get help for their child

This session would cover a broad array of topics such as: comorbid diagnoses, differential diagnoses, appropriate evaluations, appropriate IEP’s, alternative school placements, summer camp, classification, educational rights, extended school year, independent evaluations, referral for discipline specific evaluations, referral to other professionals or educational attorneys, expert witness, due process, conflict resolution meetings, complaint investigations, relocating to another school district, SAT/ACT prep courses or academic tutoring for remediation or for credit.

This is not an evaluation of your child. It is not an opinion of your child’s diagnosis or need for services. It will provide you with more then enough information and insight to guide you to your next set of decisions to “get you started” in helping your child.

This is usually a one office session consultation. The cost for each session cost $185.00. This consultation can be done by telephone appointment; the cost is $180.00 for a minimum of 50 minutes, prepaid. A home visit is also possible, traveling time would be additional. Of course you can take notes and I will explain each issue in detail.

Getting on the right track

This consultation is designed for families:

  • who need a second opinion
  • who want a complete picture of their child’s issues
  • who need to work with their HMO or PPO therapist
  • who have limited financial resources without reimbursement

To “get on the right track” consists of four sessions.

The third session is just the child. I will be making more in-depth observations to confirm my conclusions from the reports, evaluations, screening forms and the information you provided in our personal interview.

The fourth session is a feedback session. In the feedback session I will provide opinions on all areas of concerns such as, Psychiatric, Psychological, Educational, Medication, Behavioral and Social. If appropriate I will make recommendations of additional evaluations from other disciplines. We will discuss diagnosis, treatment plan and treatment modalities. I will help you prioritize your course of action.

There is no additional fee for a one page letter or a phone call to another professional. Of course you can take notes and I will explain each issue in detail. The cost for each session is $180.00. There is an additional charge for a written report

Telephone Consultations

This consultation is designed only for families:

  • who were previously evaluated by me
  • who were seen for “getting on the right track”

It is designed for families that are not being seen regularly in my office but need information to make decisions in their child’s best interest. This is a low cost convenient way to get your questions answered without needing to wait for an appointment. The telephone appointment cost is $175.00/hour rounded in 15 minute intervals.

Group Consultations

This consultation is designed for:

  • multiple families in the same school district
  • families that have children with similar difficulties

The families will be seen together as a group and have their concerns jointly addressed. This is NOT an evaluation of your children or an opinion of their diagnosis or need for services. It will provide you with enough information to proceed to the next set of decisions for each of the children. It enables a group to share the cost. This consultation is usually done in one or two sessions, cost for each session is $200.00, prepaid. Home visit is also possible, travel time would be additional.
